With 100 cities identified under the Smart Cities Mission, these cities appear to be keen to have a smart and sustainable transport model, perhaps similar to Mysuru, which launched the Intelligent Transport System (ITS), a passenger-friendly initiative, five years ago.
Nupur Gupta, senior transport specialist at the World Bank, said the Smart Cities initiative can act as a catalyst for renewed focus on ITS among the cities selected under the mission.
“These cities are asking for ITS model,” she said.
Mysuru has successfully demonstrated ITS to other cities.
